Project overview

Intercooling Design Co., Ltd. retrofitted an existing cold room for CP Rice Co., Ltd. at their Ayutthaya plant. Scope included Variable Speed Drive (VSD) on two Bitzer 40 HP compressors, a new PLC control strategy, and electrical upgrades.

Design and installation approach

Engineers surveyed the site and reviewed load from door openings, product throughput, and process heat before defining scope:

  • Dual VSD drives on Bitzer 40 HP compressors
  • New control panel integrated with VSD and field devices
  • PLC programming for temperature, humidity, and cycle management
  • Commissioning and testing under real operating conditions

Results and when VSD makes sense

After handover, the room held +15°C and roughly 60% RH more steadily than before. VSD allows compressor speed to follow actual load instead of running at full capacity continuously — energy and equipment-life benefits depend on site duty.

Food plants with variable load from frequent door cycles or multi-shift production are typical candidates for VSD upgrades over legacy on/off control.
